Christ the King Gym Expansion Ribbon Cutting
We’re thrilled to celebrate the latest milestone at Christ the King Catholic High School with the grand opening of the Fulford Athletic and Activity Complex! Last Thursday, more than 500 members of the community gathered to witness this exciting moment as Bishop Peter Jugis led the ribbon-cutting ceremony and blessed the new facility with holy water. The celebration also included student performances and guided tours of the state-of-the-art space.
The new 21,808-square-foot complex is a game-changer for the Christ the King community. Featuring a full-sized basketball court with seating for over 720 fans, the facility offers expanded opportunities for student-athletes to compete and grow. It also includes men’s and women’s locker rooms for both home and visiting teams, as well as dedicated offices for athletic directors and trainers.
But this complex is about more than just athletics. With a full-sized stage equipped with modern lighting and sound systems, students now have a premier venue for drama productions, concerts, and school-wide events. It’s a space designed to foster creativity and bring the school community together.
This grand opening marks the culmination of Phase III in our ongoing partnership with Christ the King Catholic High School. Since the initial design of the school and chapel, we’ve collaborated with school leadership to create a campus that reflects the school’s mission and supports its growth. Each phase has brought meaningful enhancements, from academic additions to vibrant gathering spaces, and now, this remarkable athletic and activity complex.
Funding for the project came from the incredible generosity of the school community, with $3.96 million raised through a capital campaign and an additional $2.64 million in support from Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools. Their commitment has made this vision a reality, ensuring that students have the resources they need to excel in academics, arts, and athletics.
