City of Conway Master Plan Wins SCAPA Award

We are excited to announce that the City of Conway Riverfront and Downtown Master Plan has been recognized by the South Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association (SCAPA) with the Outstanding Planning Project Award for a Small Urban City!

This award celebrates the transformative vision behind Conway’s Downtown Master Plan—a vision that captures the charm of a Hallmark movie while staying grounded in the character and community values of this historic riverfront city. This collaborative effort engaged 900+ community members in envisioning a city that is not just scenic but also dynamic and livable. Residents voiced aspirations for improved connectivity to the Waccamaw River, expanded public green spaces, elevated public art, and more opportunities for both private investment and community celebrations. Conway didn’t hesitate to take action. The city immediately began implementing key projects, such as The Terrace, a new public space hosting movies, live music, and providing a relaxing spot for residents. The City of Conway and its residents embraced the idea of a thriving downtown that’s “better than a Hallmark movie”—a vibrant place filled with soul.

Our team turned the city’s vision into a framework with short- and long-term projects that will enhance the downtown and riverfront, leverage public resources with private opportunities, build community support, and establish guiding principles to ensure all revitalization efforts reflect the community’s values. We are proud to have played a role in this journey and to see Conway being celebrated for its dedication to thoughtful, impactful planning.
