Growing Roots: David Wiesendanger Joins Leadership Charlotte Class 48
After four years of calling Charlotte home, BOUDREAUX Senior Vice President David Wiesendanger, AIA, is taking another step forward getting to know the community as a member of Leadership Charlotte Class 48.
Leadership Charlotte brings together a diverse group of emerging and established leaders to increase their community knowledge, civic networks, and service to Charlotte. For David, the experience is an opportunity to better understand Charlotte’s history, how the city has grown and changed, and the people and organizations shaping its future. David experienced the value of this kind of community immersion through Leadership Columbia before moving to Charlotte. Now, he hopes to build that same connection here.
“I want to continue getting to know Charlotte and see the different aspects of the city. I’m also looking forward to learning about nonprofits I might not otherwise cross paths with and finding where my skills could be useful – whether that’s volunteering, serving on a board, or another way of giving back.”

David also hopes to bring what he learns back to BOUDREAUX’s Charlotte studio. He is particularly interested in conversations surrounding growth, housing, affordability, and how development can occur without losing what makes a community special.
“I want to bring what I’m learning about Charlotte and the volunteer opportunities back to our studio and think about how we, as architects, can positively impact the community.”
At this point in the program, David has completed the first Leadership Charlotte monthly session and begun getting to know the diverse group of community leaders who make up his class. As the class moves into the next phase, participants will soon begin working together on their service project – putting the relationships and perspectives they’ve gained into action for the Charlotte community.
BOUDREAUX believes that investing in the communities we serve is an important part of our work – not just something we do outside the office. Our team actively participates in civic organizations, leadership programs, professional associations, and community initiatives that deepen our understanding of the places and people we design for. Programs like Leadership Charlotte give our team members the opportunity to build relationships across industries, learn from community leaders, and gain a broader perspective on the challenges and opportunities shaping the region. That perspective ultimately makes us better architects and better partners to our clients, allowing us to bring a more informed, connected, and community-minded approach to every project.
