Pier Giorgio Frassati Catholic Church
We are excited to be working with the the Catholic Community at Carolina Forest (CCCF) as they transition to become the Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Catholic Church. Our team is working to master plan their church campus as they grow.
Located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, they chose to name their new parish after Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, a decision that required special permission from the Vatican. Since Frassati had not yet been canonized at the time, the Diocese of Charleston needed to obtain an “indult” – a special permission under canon law – to name the parish in his honor. Bishop Jacques Fabre-Jeune sent a request to the Dicastery for Divine Worship on December 13, 2022. The Vatican granted the indult on February 3, 2023, and the parish was formally erected three days later on February 6, 2023.
Naming the parish after Pier Giorgio Frassati reflects the community’s desire to embody his spirit of service, faith, and dedication to the marginalized. Frassati’s life serves as an inspiration for young Catholics and laypeople, demonstrating how ordinary individuals can live out the Gospel in extraordinary ways.
About Pier Giorgio Frassati
Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901–1925) was an Italian layman known for his deep faith, charitable works, and love for the outdoors. He was a member of the Third Order of Saint Dominic and was actively involved in Catholic Action and the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. Frassati dedicated his life to serving the poor and sick in his hometown of Turin, Italy. He died at the age of 24 from polio, which he likely contracted while caring for the ill.

Frassati was beatified by Pope John Paul II on May 20, 1990, who referred to him as the “Man of the Eight Beatitudes.” His canonization is scheduled to take place on August 3, 2025, during the Jubilee of Youth in Rome, following the recognition of a miracle attributed to his intercession.
