The Urban Land Institute chapters from South Carolina and North Carolina hosted the 2022 Carolinas Conference Meeting in Columbia this February. The conference is an annual event put on by ULI Charlotte, ULI South Carolina, and ULI Triangle, that brings together over 700 professionals from all facets of industry interested in bettering communities. Speakers and industry leaders hosted panels and sessions. This year’s conference theme was “Return of the Roaring 20’s”, with discussions focused on the 15-minute city, building on the shared strength of the regional economy, innovation districts, education as an economic and development engine, and sustaining success and collaboration across disciplines to meet the challenges and opportunities of community building. The theme was fitting for Columbia as efforts have been made towards attracting new development to the city and revitalizing the Midlands area.
BOUDREAUX’s own Master Planner, Irene Dumas Tyson, is the Governance Chair for ULI South Carolina and helped organize the event. She focused on celebrating downtown Columbia and making connections between South Carolina and North Carolina businesses. BOUDREAUX also helped put together a presentation featured in the Crane Watch session, for the University of South Carolina’s Campus Village. We were thrilled to be involved in this incredible event, and so proud of Irene’s efforts to enrich communities.
