Virginia Hylton Park | Town of Lexington
We guided the Town of Lexington’s signature downtown park from master planning through design and construction, transforming a beloved neighborhood green into an inclusive, activity-rich destination. The project expanded the park by approximately 8.25 acres, nearly doubling its footprint, and re-organized circulation with a welcoming new entry sequence that connects visitors to a broader network of shaded paths and overlooks. Program enhancements included two age-appropriate playgrounds with poured-in-place surfacing, a splash pad at the main entrance, a performance pavilion/amphitheater, porch and platform swings, a teen social/gaming zone, fitness stations, and creekside overlook decks that frame Twelve Mile Creek.
Our master plan knit these elements into a coherent experience: clear sightlines for safety, universally accessible routes and play, durable materials, and planting that stabilizes slopes and restores the riparian edge. Through stakeholder workshops, phasing, and careful construction administration, we delivered a park that opens earlier and welcomes significantly more visitors - immediately becoming a community hub for everyday play, weekend events, and town gatherings. The result is a resilient public landscape that honors Virginia Hylton’s legacy while providing Lexington with a modern, multigenerational park for everyone.
