The Columbia chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) recently awarded two of BOUDREAUX’s higher education projects. Both the Center for Business and Information Technologies at Midlands Technical College and the Samuel J. Cadden Chapel at Clemson University received AIA Citation Awards.
The Midlands Technical College Center for Business and Information Technologies is a gateway to its Beltline Campus. The 58,000 sq/ft Center is home to programs focusing on Business, Information Technology, Science, and Mathematics and offers an array of learning and collaborative spaces. Its focus on natural light from large expanses of windows serves as a way to increase wellness among students and employees of the building alike. The Center for Business and Information Technologies connects and enriches the student experience and connections to the community at large, while serving as a new iconic beacon for the lower entrance to the campus
Clemson University’s Samuel J. Cadden Chapel is a nature-oriented place of welcome and respite for students on the Clemson campus. It is a jewel in the green “spine,” a series of interconnected outdoor spaces that run north south through the center of the campus interrupted only by the library as its symbolic heart and now the Chapel. Available for celebration, mourning, or even simple reflection, the Chapel serves the University as quiet space of serenity, offering garden views from its placement atop the hillside.
These two projects were both new builds and have fostered a sense of pride on their respective campuses. We had the opportunity to accept these awards with our clients and construction teams at the awards ceremony in Columbia held December 12th.
