ACUHO-i Presentation: USC Sumter Street Residence Halls
What does it mean to honor the past while preparing for the future? This session explores the University of South Carolina’s bold reinvestment in its housing system, using a major redevelopment project as a case study. Together with campus leaders and design partners, participants will explore themes of affordability, maximizing bed count, creating a vibrant central hub, and building in the historic core of campus. Presenters will illuminate how the project team is “rewinding” to pay homage and capitalize on proximity to the historic context while “fast-forwarding” toward an innovative, student-centered future. Attendees will leave with insights into strategic decision-making, collaborative planning, and practical approaches to balancing financial realities with aspirational goals.
